Book Club News

KPC ladies’ book club has been meeting monthly since September 2022. During that time we have read a variety of books. The book club is not just for those who have a passion for reading but is for those who are curious to know more about the Christian faith and for those who want to grow spiritually.

The books we have read to date include, Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers, Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World by Joanna Weaver and God Isn’t Finished With You Yet by Catherine Campbell, all of which were chosen with the aim of developing opportunity for meaningful discussion together with personal and corporate reflection.

The group also provides a safe space in which to discuss difficult issues, clarify misconceptions, share struggles and offer and receive encouragement.

Our current read is The Secular Creed by Rebecca McLaughlin. As the chaos of secular culture intensifies, the boundaries between faith and secularism seem stark and divisive. The issues covered in the book are topical and sensitive. McLaughlin takes a calm, thoughtful and carefully reasoned approach to five contemporary claims - Black lives Matter, Love is Love, Gay rights are Human Rights, Women’s Rights are Human Rights and Transgender Women are Women.

Well researched, considerate and respectful in her expression she provides her readers with real-life examples, personal anecdotes and historical facts with which to ponder these delicate subjects. This approach is a breath of fresh air at a time when hostility and conflict tend to characterise these types of debate. McLaughlin encourages us to be proactive and intentional in our faith while remaining respectful of others. As with each of the books we have read this publication has sparked lively discussions and given us all food for thought.

New members are always welcome. If you would like to join us please contact the church office.
